A Salute to Individuals Livin’ the Dream

ENC Nonprofit Partners, Inc. is hosting “Livin’ the Dream,” a tribute to local nonprofit leaders in honor of the upcoming Martin Luther King, Jr., holiday celebration. The MLK Day event, co-sponsored by Young Women of Promise, Inc. and Greater Glory AME Mission Church, will be held on Monday, January 15, 2024, beginning at 10:00 a.m. at New Vision Faith Ministries, located at 102 Eastbrook Drive in Greenville, N.C.

Alice Shapiro: Why collect art?

On a quiet day near the end of 2023, I walked around downtown Kinston with no particular destination or purpose in mind. Art 105 was open, and I entered. Upon reaching Bruce D. Ziegler's space, the artist greeted me cheerily, and we began a conversation about artmaking. As we walked around the art-filled space, Ziegler showed me several pieces he had made over the years, and I began to see a pattern, or a style, emerge from the many displayed on the walls and floor.

Kinston Police investigating armed robbery at tobacco store

On Friday, January 5th, 2023, at approximately 12:45 p.m., members of the Kinston Police Department responded to Kinston Tobacco and Vape, 719 N. Queen St. Kinston, in reference to an armed robbery.  Upon arrival, officers met with the victims, who advised that an unknown black male entered the business and demanded money. The suspect was armed and fled on foot after receiving cash from the clerk. 

Kinston Police arrest suspect in armed burglary on Hwy 258 N

On Monday, January 1, 2024, members of the Kinston Police Department responded to a residence on the 1500 block of Hwy 258 N. Kinston, N.C., in reference to a reported 1st degree Burglary. The homeowner advised that the suspect entered the residence while the occupants were asleep and stole several items. The homeowner provided surveillance video that showed the suspect, Dustin Snyder, 36, of Kinston, enter the residence with a firearm before stealing firearms and misc. items.
