This production is presented in partnership with the LCC Foundation. The show is sure to drag you out of your seats by its tentacles and into the magical world of The Little Mermaid.
The deceased body of Anthony Harris, 51, was discovered at his residence on ND’s Lane in La Grange today. While the cause of death has not been determined, the LCSO is investigating the death as a homicide.

Bill McBrayer, a North Carolina Community College System State Board member, made a visit to Lenoir Community College today with a stop at the Aerospace and Advanced Manufacturing Center.
The Center for Disease Control (CDC) estimates 42.4% of adults have the diagnosis of obesity and 9.2% have severe obesity. In 2021, CDC ranked North Carolina 16th in overall obesity compared to the rest of the United States. In 2022, 40.4% of adults in Lenoir County were clinically obese, 5% greater than the overall rate in North Carolina. Lenoir County residents live in one of the epicenters of the obesity epidemic.
Artist Linda Paluka flew in from Montana to paint the third white rose on the POW/MIA chair at the G.I. Joe Living History Museum. The white roses symbolize those North Carolina servicemembers missing in action in Vietnam who have been recovered. Frederick Hall, Bynum Price, and Edward Morgan were the three servicemembers whose roses were painted on the chair.
In this week's installment of Unsung Heroes, we turn our attention to a remarkable individual whose dedication has transformed Lenoir County's recreational landscape. Harold Sutton, Parks Superintendent for Kinston/Lenoir County Parks and Recreation Department, recommended by Kinston/Lenoir County Parks and Recreation Director Corey Povar, is our Unsung Hero for this week.
On Saturday, over $12,000 in scholarships and other gifts were given to the Distinguished Young Women of Lenoir County Class of 2024. The Distinguished Young Woman of Lenoir County program is part of a nationwide effort to recognize, reward, and encourage excellence and education among all young people. Seven senior girls competed for the scholarships. Participants were Gabby Smith, Tiyah Chapman, Leanna Kivett, Shamiah Hall, Grayson Lynch, Kalyn Brock, and Caitlin Waters.

Lenoir County Public Schools was among several school districts across the state to receive via email today an anonymous, non-specific threat to school safety. Notified immediately by LCPS, local law enforcement began an investigation and, out of an abundance of caution, dispatched additional personnel to our schools to conduct walk-throughs.
I recently heard a news report about the push to change how teachers grade their students’ work from a points-based system to a standard-based evaluation. Part of the ideas behind this push for “equity” in grading includes allowing retakes for tests, multiple revisions for essays, and eliminating behavioral considerations such as late work and absences as part of grades.
A 30-year-old Kinston woman was arrested over the weekend for trafficking methamphetamine. Jessica Anne West was arrested Sunday by Lenoir County Sheriff’s Office officials after more than 58 grams of methamphetamine was discovered at an Andy Lane residence

The Charlotte Baker Memorial Fund will be held on Friday, September 29th at the Pink Hill Fire Department Community Center. This event will have a BBQ cookoff, a co-ed softball tournament, and a Walk/Run.
Snow Hill Primary gives out a weekly award called "Terrific Kid" awards. Each teacher at SHP chooses a student who has been responsible, shows great character, or has reached a personal goal. In an era where youth knowledge and involvement in the political system is vital to the health of our country, students at the Lenoir County Early College High School had the opportunity to vote for their Student Government representation in a way that mirrored the process and rigor of municipal, state and federal elections.
Mrs. Lindsey’s Child Care, located at 3157 HWY 258 N, celebrated its 8th anniversary on Thursday, September 14th. Lindsey Whitley, the Owner and Administrator of the facility, had organized an all-day event for the occasion. The celebration was attended by the entire staff, along with the children enrolled at the center.
