Snow Hill - Greene Central High School’s Marching Rams have kicked off their 2023-24 season. Since July 24th the members of the band have been meeting at Greene Central for Band Camp from 9-5. They have been working hard on their halftime show, marching basics, and new music.
The state’s seasonally adjusted July 2023 unemployment rate was 3.3 percent, unchanged from June’s revised rate. The national rate decreased 0.1 of a percentage point to 3.5 percent.

The annual Jones County Heritage Festival is set to return on September 22nd and 23rd at the Jones County Civic Center. The two-day event promises a vibrant celebration of community and culture. Kicking off the festivities is a concert featuring John Norris and Paige King Johnson on Friday, September 22nd. Doors open at 6:30PM, and tickets are available online or at the door.
UNC Health Lenoir is proud to announce the opening of the new state of the art UNC Health Lenoir Wound and Infusion Center. This unit specializes in advanced wound care and infusion services. Wound therapy has been available in the hospital since 2016 but the hospital has recently expanded to include hyperbaric oxygen therapy.
Addressing a growing need for increased fuel capacity, the North Carolina Global TransPark Authority (NCGTP) and Kinston Regional Airport (ISO) have begun construction on a new fuel farm. The existing facility, dating back to the '50s, currently supplies 60,000 gallons but has been unable to meet daily demands.

On Tuesday, August 15th, 2023, members of the Kinston Police Department located the suspect and suspect vehicle involved in the shooting of Marquetta Norman on August 10th, 2023. A traffic stop was subsequently conducted, and detectives were able to apprehend Marquez Johnson, 18, of Kinston for his involvement in the crime. A search of the vehicle resulted in the recovery of a Glock 9mm handgun.
All traffic must stop for a stopped bus, unless it is on a road of four or more lanes with a median or center turning lane. In those instances, oncoming traffic does not have to stop because children will not be crossing the road to reach the bus. Traffic following a bus must always stop with the bus. If in doubt, always stop for a school bus.
Lenoir Community College recently held the dedication of the newly named Lamm Building. The building is named in recognition of William "Bill" Lamm and Melda B. Lamm, longtime supporters of the College. Their lives were dedicated to their faith, family, friends, and community. In light of that, the two were very generous with their work and donations to multiple institutions across the surrounding area.
