La Grange woman arrested on drug charge
After multiple resident complaints near a La Grange residence led to a narcotics investigation, a 60-year-old woman was arrested on a controlled substance charge this week.

Arrests made after firearm discovered in traffic stop
Officers from C-Squad initiated a traffic stop and located a concealed firearm. After an investigation, officers charged Trevon Berry (27 of Cary NC) with possession of a firearm by felon and carrying a concealed gun. Nasier Taylor (22 of Warrenton NC) was also charged with carrying a concealed gun. Both were placed in the LC Jail under secured bonds.
First-place wins at state FFA meet sending trio to national competition
Three LCPS students representing FFA chapters at South Lenoir and North Lenoir high schools have won the right to compete at the national level after first-place finishes at the recent North Carolina FFA Convention in Raleigh.
Update: arrest made in murder investigation
**UPDATE** On July 12, 2023, KPD Violet Crime Action Team received information that Retho Gardner was hiding out at a residence on the 900 block of Candlewood Dr. Gardner had 1st Degree Murder warrants for the homicide of Franklin Bowden. After an investigation, a search warrant was obtained by detectives. KPD SWAT, Patrol, and ALE assisted with the execution of the search warrant. Gardner surrendered peacefully and was taken into custody.
Library Digital Resource Rover takes snack drive to the community
The Neuse Regional Libraries’ Digital Resource Rover (DRR) hit the road this summer with a new schedule specifically for the summer months. Thanks to partnerships with the Kinston Housing Authority, Greene Lamp Head Start, local child care centers, and county agencies in Lenoir, Jones, and Greene Counties, the DRR has the opportunity to visit even more of our youngest patrons while continuing to offer multigenerational programming and library services throughout our communities.

Lenoir Community College will bring Matilda The Musical to life on the Turner Stage beginning this weekend. Matilda The Musical is based around a 5-year-old Matilda Wormwood, an intelligent little girl with the gift of telekinesis determined to overcome her hardships.

The “Set Sail With Us” nautical party celebrating Lenoir/Greene United Way takes place on Wednesday, July 19, 2023 at Kinston Country Club. A narcotics investigation on Friday resulted in the arrest of a Ridgeview Drive man on marijuana and firearms charges.

The new school year will find new principals at three LCPS elementary schools after the Lenoir County Board of Education approved personnel recommendations by Superintendent Brent Williams on Monday night.
