Increased funding for education and emergency services in Greene County's budget

Snow Hill - County Manager Kyle J. DeHaven presented the Greene County Commissioners with the proposed 2024 budget for review and consideration. After a public hearing, the commissioners voted four to one in a recommendation of the proposed budget, with Commissioner Derek Burress as the dissenting opinion. The budget outlines several key highlights aimed at addressing various county needs and initiatives. To ensure a balanced budget, the proposed tax rate of $.786 per $100 valuation will remain the same. Additionally, an EMS Tax of $.04 per $100 valuation is being introduced.

City of Kinston's proposed budget totals $117,888,927

The City of Kinston's proposed budget for the fiscal year 2023-2024 has been unveiled by City Manager Rhonda Barwick. The recommended budget, totaling $117,888,927, does not impose any increases on property tax rates, utility rates, or the use of fund balance. The budget also includes salary adjustments and additional positions in key departments. The City of Kinston anticipates voting on the proposed budget on Tuesday, June 20, 2023.

Lenoir County prioritizes community impact in proposed budget plan

The 2023-2024 Lenoir County Budget was passed with no dissenting votes on Monday. According to the budget memo presented to the Lenoir County Commissioners, the budget reflects the county's commitment to progress and the efficient allocation of limited resources to positively impact the community. The County Tax Rate remains unchanged at $0.845 per $100 of valuation. However, the fire tax rates for Wyse Fork, Sandy Bottom, and Southwood Fire Service Districts increased $0.10 per $100 of valuation based on requests from volunteer fire departments.

GEC ‘s Award Day: A Time to Celebrate

The exams and EOC’s were finished, and it was time to celebrate the many accomplishments of Greene Early College students. It would be a day to be remembered as family and friends and the entire GEC student body gathered at New Direction Church, May 19 for the annual awards day to applaud and cheer for each other.
