Lenoir Community College will hold its 61st commencement at 7 p.m. May 11 in the Student Center with Dr. Deborah Grimes as the guest speaker. Admission to the ceremony is by ticket only as seating is limited. More than 350 graduates are eligible to receive degrees.
The Law Enforcement Torch Run® (LETR) for Special Olympics is the largest year-round public awareness and grass-roots fundraising campaign for Special Olympics. 2022 was an incredible year in the 8th Judicial District Family Accountability and Recovery Court (FARC)! Eight participants successfully completed the program. In FARC, participants have lost or are at risk of losing their children due to substance use which impacts ability to parent.

Lenoir County Government is renovating the administration building (also known as the tax office) at 101 N. Queen Street. The renovation is set to begin in early June, so the agencies are in the process of relocating departments to temporary offices just down the block.

The 42nd annual BBQ Fest on the Neuse took place this weekend with Mayor Dontario Hardy giving out keys to the city. There were four recipients this year, Waylon Adams, Craig Hill, Shannarra Barrow, and Nikisha Williams.
The annual BBQ Fest on the Neuse announced its barbecue and sauce winners on Saturday. The categories include Sauce Boss, Natural Source, Backyard, and Professional. The winners each won prize money and cutting boards.

The Local Government Commission (LGC) has approved more than $100 million in financing requests from local governments around the state for school construction and other facilities, to renovate town halls and to purchase property for public use, and nearly $270 million for water and sewer infrastructure work.
Lenoir Community College student Ashley Rodriguez of Trenton was selected as the recipient of the Arts and Sciences Department Laptop Award. A Career and College Promise student, she holds a 4.0 grade point average at LCC.
