Greene Early College Students Spotlighted by the Board of Education
Each month, the Greene County Board of Education recognizes students from the different county schools with Student Spotlight. During the October board meeting, five Greene Early College students, nominated by GEC staff, were recognized for leadership, citizenship, academic achievements, and innovative initiatives. Students’ unique attributes were shared with the board. Also, each student was presented with a certificate by Superintendent Dr. Frank Creech.

Greene County Middle School wins grant for community engagement
Greene County Middle School (GCMS) has been named the recipient of a North Carolina Community Foundation Grant. The grant in the amount of $1200 was awarded to the school to help develop and fund their Community and Engagement Activities and Goals.

Lenoir, Greene and Jones County Schools to receive School Safety Grants
Two hundred school districts and charter schools across North Carolina will benefit from more than $74.1 million in school safety grants announced today by the Department of Public Instruction’s Center for Safer Schools. Greene County Schools will receive $630,660.00, Jones County Schools will receive $499,134.00, and Lenoir County Public Schools will receive $282,600.00.
Yvonne Deatherage sworn in as Mayor of Pink Hill
Following a contentious meeting in October that resulted in Mayor Mike Hill resigning, along with the clerk and the assistant clerk of Pink Hill, a meeting was held on Tuesday night to select a mayor to finish out the term Hill was serving.
Industrial building available in Jones County with over 24,000 square feet
A 24,975 square feet industrial building is for sale in Jones County. At 181 Industrial Park Drive, this building is 4,975 square feet of heated and cooled office areas, and 20,000 square feet of production area, also heated and cooled. The building has over five acres of land available for expansion in the industrial park.
Veterans' Roundtable: Veterans Day
November 11 became a federal holiday in the United States in 1938 as Armistice Day. In 1918, on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month, an armistice was declared between the Allied nations & Germany in World War 1. The next year, 1919, President Woodrow Wilson proclaimed November 11 as the first commemoration to honor the World War 1 soldiers in the United States.
Snow Hill Primary "Terrific Kid" awards
Snow Hill Primary gives out a weekly award called "Terrific Kid" awards. Each teacher at SHP chooses a student who has been responsible, shows great character, or has reached a personal goal. Mixed Beverage Referendum on Town of Pink Hill Election Day ballot
The citizens of Pink Hill will be voting on a Mixed Beverage Referendum to decide whether or not to permit the sale of mixed beverages in hotels, restaurants, private clubs, community theatres, and convention centers and the ‘on-premises’ and ‘off-premises’ sale of malt beverages and unfortified wine in qualified establishments. This referendum can only be voted on by registered voters of Pink Hill on Election Day, November 8, 2022.
Voters that use early voting, or by-mail ballot, will have the opportunity to go to their precinct on Election Day, November 8th, to receive the ballot that contains the Mixed Beverage vote.
