Eliza Hawkins was presented The Sue Marcom Jones Scholastic Achievement Award by Morgan Carter at Moss Hill School on May 31, 2022. This award is given annually to the fifth grade student with the highest grade average while in fifth grade. Eliza is the daughter of Barry and Rebecca Hawkins of Kinston.

Greene Central hosts the annual baseball camp. This camp is put on through Greene County Parks and Recreation Department and Greene Central has hosted this camp for over 40 years. This four-day camp is open for kids aged 5-13 and it covers the fundamentals of baseball. Hitting, throwing, catching, baserunning, and position play were all covered during this camp.

The Wyse Fork Battlefield is endangered because of planned highway construction. The NC Depart of Transportation wants to run the new highway 70 bypass with interchange through the heart of the battlefield where the heat of the battle took place. There is another route that could be used that is much cheaper and .2 mile shorter. Please help support a change in the route and the preservation of the Wyse Fork Battlefield.

Shawn Mayers (51), of Kinston, was already facing possession of firearm by felon charges, felony indecent liberties with child, and misdemeanor sexual battery in Lenoir County. On June 13, 2022 in Pitt County, Mayers, who owns Mayers Realty in Winterville, was charged with felony solicit prostitution minor, felony second degree forcible rape, felony sex act: sub parent/custodian, and felony incest.
