The change is scheduled to be made Wednesday where Tower Hill Road/ Washington Avenue intersect with JP Harrison Boulevard/ Secrest Street. Currently, traffic on JP Harrison Boulevard/ Secrest Street doesn’t stop.
Changes in leadership happening within Greene County Schools
Changes are happening within Greene County Schools. Greene Early College High School will get a new principal. Mr. Taylor Moore will take over as principal for Greene Early College. The current principal, Dr. Rodney McNeill, will become the new Executive Director of Human Capital effective July 1.
NCDHHS advises caution to prevent heat-related illnesses as temperatures rise
Parents are advised to never leave a child unattended in a vehicle, not even for a few minutes; temperatures inside a car rapidly increase and can reach dangerous and fatal temperatures in as little as 10 minutes. In the United States, approximately 38 children under the age of 15 die each year from heatstroke after being left in a vehicle.
NWS: Significant Severe weather outbreak possible Tuesday, dangerous heatwave through Tuesday
At this time, the storm prediction center has upgraded the region to a 'slight risk' for severe storms, but if confidence increases that this outbreak will indeed occur, later upgrades may be necessary. Strong damaging winds of 60 to 80 mph, large hail, very heavy downpours with localized flooding, along with very frequent lightning, may all occur if storms develop Tuesday.
Mike Parker: ‘Juneteenth’ celebration scheduled for this week
Juneteenth is a shortened version of “June Nineteenth.” This date in 1865 marks the day when federal troops arrived in Galveston, TX, to take control of the state and make all enslaved people freed. “Juneteenth” is considered the longest-running African American holiday. On June 17, 2021, it officially became a federal holiday.

North Carolina drivers in all 100 counties should look out for the BAT-mobile cruising their local streets this summer.

Sunday: The main threats will be damaging wind gusts and large hail. An isolated tornado will also be possible. Torrential downpours will occur in the strongest storms as well. Timing will be from mid afternoon into the evening (3-11 PM).
Monday: Heat Index values up to 105 degrees are expected.
Tuesday: Heat Index values up to 105-115 degrees and severe thunderstorms are also possible.

LCC Program Chair Selected for State Task Force
Lenoir Community College Business Administration/Accounting and Finance Program Chair Kristy Grady has been selected to serve on the State Board/North Carolina Associate of Certified Professional Accountants (NCACPA) Education Task Force. She is one of two members from the North Carolina Community Colleges on the 10-member board.
LCES confirms fatality in fireworks explosion, gives update on injured firefighters
The three injured firefighters were transported from the scene to ECU Health Medical Center in Greenville, NC to be treated for their injuries. Two of the three firefighters have been released from the hospital, and one firefighter was transported to the NC Jaycee Burn Center in Chapel Hill for further treatment. Unfortunately, Randy Herring succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
Greene County keeps property tax rate the same, gives employees at least a 5% raise
Greene County Commissioners passed the FY 2022-2023 budget. The July 1st effective budget increases spending on Emergency Services, keeps the property tax rate at $0.786 per $100 of valuation, and gives all employees at least a 5% cost of living raise.

Fireworks container detonated causing injuries to several firefighters in La Grange
At approximately 3:15pm this afternoon, La Grange Volunteer Fire Department, North Lenoir Fire & Rescue, and the North Carolina Forest Service were dispatched to 4871 Bulltown Road in La Grange, NC for a reported brush fire approaching a structure. Prior to arrival, the Lenoir County 911 Center advised responding personnel the structure contained commercial-grade fireworks.

Gary Octavious WILLIS of Seven Springs, North Carolina was arrested, pursuant to a narcotics investigation conducted by the Lenoir County Sheriff's Office Narcotics Unit.
Snow Hill woman charged after traffic stop
Deputy Devin James was patrolling the Arba-Jason area when he noticed a suspicious vehicle; after conducting a traffic stop on the vehicle and performing a consent search along with other Deputies, Deputy James arrested 38 year old Beatrice Church of Snow Hill, who was charged with Possession of Methamphetamine, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia and later charged with Possession with Intent to Sell/Deliver Schedule II controlled substance.
