Michelle Cash (R) defeated incumbent Billy Davis (R) in the 2022 Primary Election for a seat on the Lenoir County Board of Education for District One. Cash won 58.26% of the votes from the five reporting precincts. While Davis beat Cash in Absentee By-Mail, Cash had more votes on Election Day and during early voting. “I am very excited and ready to make positive changes,” said Cash.
On Tuesday, May 17th, 2022, members of the Kinston Police Department were able to apprehend and charge Jameon Strong, 21, of Kinston N.C. for his involvement in the attempted murder of the 17 year old male victim from Friday’s shooting incident.

Earlier this month, Jimmy Donaldson, otherwise known as MrBeast, posted images and videos on Twitter depicting a recreation of Willy Wonka’s Chocolate Factory. Donaldson, is known on YouTube as a creator who specializes in expensive stunts. MrBeast was named one of the 10 highest-paid YouTubers of 2020.
The Greene County Sheriff's Office announced on their Facebook page that Greene County citizens can contact the Sheriff’s Office to schedule home security checks.

Caitlyn McCarter, a native of Kinston, was recently initiated into the East Carolina University Circle of Omicron Delta Kappa, the National Leadership Honor Society. The Society welcomed 1,971 new initiates from 78 universities during April 2022.
On May 14, 2022, former Kinston Mayor Johnnie Moseley passed away at the age of 79. Funeral arrangements are incomplete at this time according to Mills Funeral Home.
Moseley served two terms as Mayor from 1997 to 2005 and was the first African American in that role. He served as mayor during the devastating effects of Hurricane Floyd and during the West Pharmaceutical explosion. He also was on Kinston City Council from 1985 to 1997 before becoming mayor.
The city’s water reclamation facility is named the Johnnie Moseley Regional Water Reclamation Facility because of his work post-Hurricane Floyd to build a facility out of the flood zone.

Abigail Reyes, a 2019 Greene Early College alumni, graduated from University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, on May 8, 2022. Ms. Reyes received her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and Women and Gender Studies. While at GEC, she earned the honor of 2019 Salutatorian of her class.

According to multiple sources, former NC House Representative and Lenoir County Chairman George Graham has passed away. Graham was born on February 16, 1949. He was 73. Graham served as a member of the NC House from 2013 through 2018 and served the citizens of Lenoir County for over 30 years on the board of commissioners.
Snow Hill Primary gives out a weekly award called "Terrific Kid" awards. Each teacher at SHP chooses a student who has been responsible, shows great character, or has reached a personal goal.
