NC House District 12 candidates answer frequently asked questions

Candidates for NC House District 12, incumbent Chris Humphrey and Virginia Cox-Daugherty, answer questions about topics that impact North Carolina. West Pharmaceutical Services received a shipment of equipment on an Antonov cargo plane

West Pharmaceutical Services received a shipment of equipment for its Kinston, NC manufacturing facility on an Antonov plane, one of the largest cargo planes in the world, which landed and unloaded at the NC Global TransPark. West Pharmaceuticals has added 60 additional team members in the past eight months at its Kinston location. West is looking to hire even more people to fill new positions over the next several months.

Following the data, North Carolina will remain paused in Phase 3

Governor Roy Cooper announced today that North Carolina will remain paused in Phase 3 for three more weeks as health officials continue to monitor North Carolina’s viral trends. North Carolina has seen increased hospitalizations and trajectory of cases in recent weeks. Governor Cooper underscored the importance of wearing masks, social distancing, and using good judgment despite fatigue or frustration with the pandemic.

KPD's pink patch program for breast cancer awareness

The Kinston Police Department embraced the Pink Patch Project which is an innovative public awareness campaign to bring attention to breast cancer and to support breast cancer research to help combat the disease. The project originated in 2013 with the Seal Beach Police Department in Southern California who first wore the bright pink patches on their uniform.

Candidates for Lenoir County Commissioners At-large Linda Rouse Sutton, Steve Saint Amand, Tiffani Koonce-Crawford, and Chad Rouse answered some frequently asked questions, including “Recently the Lenoir County Economic development office folded into the Global TransPark. Does this benefit Lenoir County, why or why not? How can we improve the pay scale for Lenoir County employees? What do you see as the correct balance between historic preservation and cultural sensitivity? Do you believe Lenoir County Government adequately funds the Lenoir County Public School System? Is our County property tax rate adequate to support the needs of Lenoir County government?”

Gone, But Not Forgotten program to be held on Halloween at Gov. Caswell Memorial

How did people 150 years ago manage when a loved one passed on? What were some of the customs they practiced mourning that loss, and what happened to the person who died? Is it true that bells were installed in cemeteries so that a person who was buried could “ring the bell” if they were still alive? These questions, and many more, will be answered at a unique event hosted at the Governor Caswell Memorial at 2612 West Vernon Ave. in Kinston on Halloween from 1pm-4pm.

Senator Perry and Mayor Hardy announce funding for flash flood study

Today, N.C. Senator Jim Perry and Kinston Mayor Don Hardy announce next steps in the effort to address Kinston’s flash flooding concerns. After flooding in August from an intense summer thunderstorm, Perry and Hardy worked to bring people together to discuss possible solutions. Senator Perry requested assistance from the Division of Mitigation Services and Environmental Defense Fund (EDF), to discuss mitigation solutions for repeated flooding incidents in the area. As a result of these discussions, EDF, in support of the City of Kinston, is releasing a Request for Proposals to complete a flood mitigation study of the Adkin Branch Watershed.
