Senator Harry Brown's term coming to an end with no regrets

North Carolina Senator Harry Brown has been a member of the North Carolina State Senate since 2004 and became the Senate Majority Leader in 2011. His current term ends on December 31, 2020. As a small business owner who grew up in Jones County but worked in Onslow County, Brown’s initial motivation for running for office was to help other small businesses in his district and in the state.

Farmer's market update for September 12, 2020

A representative of The Neuse Regional Library will be at the Lenoir County Farmers Market on Saturday, September 12 from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., to share online genealogical resources Heritage Quest and Ancestry.com. There will also be an opportunity to sign up for library cards and check out items from a selection of popular materials.

Tourism Development Authority to lease the Visitor Center

At Tuesday’s Kinston City Council meeting City Manager Tony Sears presented the council a lease agreement between Lenoir County Tourism Development Authority (TDA) and the City of Kinston. The council approved continuing the in-kind services offered by the city for janitorial or custodial maintenance, pest control, maintenance of grounds, and cost of utilities.

Draken International Selects NCGTP for Operations Base

Draken International, a Texas-based firm that owns the world’s largest commercial fleet of privately-owned tactical aircraft, has leased hangar and office space at the Global TransPark. Draken plans to help prepare pilots at nearby Seymour Johnson Air Force Base by acting as the enemy force during training missions and war games. The company will provide similar services for the Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point.

2020 Census updates for Lenoir and surrounding counties

As of August 27th, the national self-response rate for the 2020 Census was at 64.7%. In the state of North Carolina, the self-response rate was at 60.6%. The self-response rate was 57.7% in Lenoir County, 52.9% in Jones County, and 55.0% in Greene County. “I just wish we could make our folks realize how important the census is for our financial dollars,” said Linda Rouse Sutton, Lenoir County Commissioners Chairman.
