Sargeant, a Kinston High School graduate, had worked with the law firm Gerrans, Foster and Sargeant for 22 years and was the School Board Chairman since 2013 before being approved by Gov. Roy Cooper as a District 8 judge, spanning Lenoir, Wayne and Greene counties.

The first Kinston City Council meeting of the new fiscal year took place Monday with little difficulty. Among the highlights of the meeting was the unanimous decision to adopt a resolution for the execution and delivery of the installment financing agreement and related documents with Grainger Stadium.

On July 2, the Lenoir County School Board unanimously approved the 2018-19 Lenoir County Public Schools budget. The total budget for the year is $90,842,139, 1 percent more than the previous year's budget.
