Neuse Regional Library Receives Statewide Recognition at NCPLDA Conference

Neuse Regional Libraries are excited to announce that they were recently recognized with two 2024 North Carolina Public Library Directors Association (NCPLDA) Awards. At the April 3 ceremony, Director Melanie Morgan and Neuse Regional Libraries staff were recognized for a Literacy Award for digital literacy outreach at the Friends of the Homeless Shelter and  Facility Recognition for the Kinston-Lenoir County Public Library’s new Multi-Sensory Environment.

Snow Hill Primary "Terrific Kid" awards

Snow Hill Primary gives out a weekly award called "Terrific Kid" awards.  Each teacher at SHP chooses a student who has been responsible, shows great character, or has reached a personal goal.  On Fridays, these students are presented with an award and are congratulated for their hard work.  Below are Snow Hill Primary's last Terrific Kid Awards!

Local educator receives $10,000 scholarship

Christel Carlyle has received the Zora Ellis Scholarship from The Delta Kappa Gamma Society International. The Honor Society for women educators promotes excellence in education and personal and professional growth of women educators. By providing graduate scholarships to members, the organization emphasizes leadership development for its more than 50,000 members in 17 countries.

Correspondence from across the country helps Northwest kindergartners fill in a map of the USA

The kindergarten students at Northwest Elementary could color the state in on their map of the USA – if only they had a postcard or letter from someone who lives there. The littlest state is also – as of Thursday morning – the last, the missing piece in the students’ quest to collect a mailing from a resident of each of the 50 states, a project that aims to teach them about the geography of the country and some interesting facts behind each state name.

Greene County Board of Education announces Rodney McNeill as next Superintendent

Snow Hill – The Greene County Board of Education has voted to appoint Dr. Rodney McNeill as the next superintendent of Greene County Schools, effective July 1, 2025. This decision follows the announcement of current superintendent Dr. Creech’s retirement, shared with the board on February 24, 2025. Dr. Creech has served Greene County Schools in various leadership roles since 2014 and has led the district as superintendent since 2022.
