Local artist Seraphim Smith is creating a mural that encompasses the waterBEST logo, the City of Kinston, and the children of the community. waterBEST reached out to Smith after seeing the Kinston Okra Mural on South Queen and Shine Street, and asked him to submit a drawing for a mural for the waterBEST Kinston building where they bottle their water.
Dr. Patrick Greene, principal of Greene Central High School in Greene County, was named the 2022 Wells Fargo North Carolina Principal of the Year at an awards luncheon today in Cary.
This year’s Wells Fargo Principal of the Year receives $3,000 for personal use and $3,000 for his school. The winner and a guest or two educators of his choosing, also receives professional development by attending the Global Education Symposium in Boston in 2022, thanks to Education First, an engraved vase, a custom-made NC Principal of the Year signet ring from Jostens, and resources to help combat child hunger from No Kid Hungry NC.

Michelle Cash (R) defeated incumbent Billy Davis (R) in the 2022 Primary Election for a seat on the Lenoir County Board of Education for District One. Cash won 58.26% of the votes from the five reporting precincts. While Davis beat Cash in Absentee By-Mail, Cash had more votes on Election Day and during early voting. “I am very excited and ready to make positive changes,” said Cash.
With two preliminary round wins, a team of four rising juniors from Lenoir County Early College High School have earned the right to compete for a spot in the finals of the National Personal Finance Challenge, one of only two teams in the state and 24 in the nation still in the running.
Caitlyn McCarter, a native of Kinston, was recently initiated into the East Carolina University Circle of Omicron Delta Kappa, the National Leadership Honor Society. The Society welcomed 1,971 new initiates from 78 universities during April 2022.

Abigail Reyes, a 2019 Greene Early College alumni, graduated from University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, on May 8, 2022. Ms. Reyes received her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and Women and Gender Studies. While at GEC, she earned the honor of 2019 Salutatorian of her class.
Snow Hill Primary gives out a weekly award called "Terrific Kid" awards. Each teacher at SHP chooses a student who has been responsible, shows great character, or has reached a personal goal.
