Law school graduate Robert Simmons of Kinston is still hitting the books after seven years of college. A recent Spring 2021 graduate of the Norman Adrian Wiggins School of Law in Raleigh, Simmons is preparing to take the bar exam in July and then go to work.

Jackson Colby Pass of Haw River will tell you he came to Lenoir Community College in 2019 to play baseball, but he did must more than that. He excelled in the classroom as well as the baseball diamond putting the emphasis on student.
The North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services is launching an expanded COVID-19 screening testing program to support public, charter and private K-12 schools in protecting students and staff from the spread of COVID-19. The program will launch in fall 2021 and schools can register to participate beginning in early July.
Sharon King, LCC Liaison for Greene Early College, was chosen by the GEC staff to receive the Pride in Greene Award. The recognition was made at the Greene County School’s Annual End of Year celebration on June 8. Each school in the system is offered the opportunity to recognize one of its staff members that exhibits pride in the students’ education and school mission.
Hannah Lassiter of Kinston understands what it means to be a leader. She came to Lenoir Community College in 2014 as part of the Lenoir County Early College High School program and began taking college classes in the spring of 2016. She continued her studies at LCC and was accepted in the Associate Degree Nursing Program, a rigorous academic journey. She plans to graduate with the Class of 2022.

Two principals with Lenoir County Public Schools have graduated from a year-long program designed to bolster their leadership skills.

Kinston, NC resident, Aliza Matthews, has been named to the President's List at James Madison University for the spring 2021 semester. Students who earn president's list honors must carry at least 12 graded credit hours and earn a GPA of 3.900 or above. Matthews is majoring in dance.
I can remember the wonder I felt when I saw the library’s bookmobile for the first time. I was with my mother outside of Big Star, which is now Piggly Wiggly at the Kinston Plaza. Before the grocery store’s sliding glass doors opened, I could hear an ongoing humming sound pervade the air. This made me curious.
Robert Reynolds of Jones County lost his beloved wife, Gail B. Reynolds, of more than 28 years in November 2020. Her health had been declining since the beginning of 2020. He described her as a compassionate and caring person and because of those qualities, Robert wanted to do something to help others in her memory. He established an annual scholarship at Lenoir Community College through its Foundation, and hopes to encourage others to do the same.
The Lenoir County Board of Education has approved the appointment of new principals at four schools and filled district-level positions designed to bolster support for teachers and students as LCPS prepares for a new academic year much more demanding than school was under the cloud of Covid-19.

For Brenda Griffin, a fourth-grade teacher at Pink Hill Elementary School, writing grants is a skill. Winning grants is a passion. And that passion – powered by her competitive nature, aided by her school’s systematic approach to researching and writing grants and encouraged by Pink Hill’s track record of success in winning what they apply for – has won Brenda Griffin herself Lenoir County Public School’s inaugural award for excellence in grant writing.
RALEIGH: As part of North Carolina’s effort to encourage more North Carolinians to receive COVID-19 vaccines, Governor Roy Cooper announced $4 Million Summer Cash and College Tuition drawings to motivate those who have not yet been vaccinated — and thank those who have. Four vaccinated North Carolinians 18 and older will win $1 million each and four North Carolinians ages 12 to 17 will win tuition for post-secondary education. Executive Order 219, which has concurrence from the North Carolina Council of State, authorizes the drawings.
Two women who have risen to the top of their respective areas in public education have been honored as the 2021 winners of the annual awards presented by the Lenoir County chapter of the N.C. Association of Educational Office Professionals.
Arendell Parrott Academy conferred diplomas on 46 graduating seniors in commencement exercises on June 4th. Held at 4 p.m. in Ellis Simon Gymnasium on the school’s campus, the ceremony featured student speakers Elena Williamson, Josh Okonkwo, and Matti Snyder. Head of School Brooks Sutton stated.
