The Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA-Part B, Public Law 108.446) Project is presently being amended. The Project describes the special education programs that Jones County Schools proposes for Federal funding for the 2021-22 school year. Interested persons are encouraged to review amendments to the Project and make comments concerning the implementation of special education under this Federal Program.
A meeting will be held on May 28, 2021 from 1:00 pm - 2:00 p.m. at Jones County Board of Education, 320 West Jones Street Trenton, NC 28585. The purpose of this meeting is to consult with private schools and parents of parentally placed private school students as well as home-schooled students.
The longtime practice of holding graduation ceremonies outdoors, an eventual casualty to the threat of inclement weather, will be restored at four LCPS high schools at month’s end as they respond to public health recommendations and the desire of families to see their students awarded diplomas.
Kinston, North Lenoir and South Lenoir high schools will hold commencements on their football fields and Lenoir County Learning Academy will host graduation on the grounds of the chapel at Kennedy Home, where the alternative school is located.

After 53 years of Hugh Pollock walking the halls of Arendell Parrot Academy, he has announced his intention to retire. “He’s been a pillar of this school for 53 years. He has worn many different hats here but the constant has always been the love for all the kids,” said Kimberly Pollock Whitley, Pollock’s daughter, and APA teacher.

A senior who’s loaded his schedule at North Lenoir High School with demanding AP and college-credit classes, a two-sport athlete, a teenager who holds down an after-school job, he’s an 18-year-old who, in his own words, always tries “to get the best out of myself.”
Snow Hill Primary gives out a weekly award called "Terrific Kid" awards. Each teacher at SHP chooses a student who has been responsible, shows great character, or has reached a personal goal. On Fridays, these students are presented with an award from the counselor, Mrs. McLawhorn, or an administrator and are congratulated for their hard work.
North Lenoir Cheerleading Coach Gail Jernigan has decided to retire after 17 years of coaching. She has left her mark on every team she has coached, but her last group of seniors will definitely hold a place in her heart.

During the virtual learning phase of schools this year, many young people discovered interest in unsuspected places. Such is the case with Andrea Contreras, a senior at Greene Early College as she discovered her passion for flowers. After the reopening of school in April with more students in attendance, she continued her enthusiasm for growing flowers.
Lenoir Community College, in an effort to address equity gaps in enrollment and access, partnered with Lenoir County Public Schools to provide a structured and unique opportunity for high school students in the district. The idea of a Lancer Academy was born.
Hannah Baker of La Grange, North Carolina, was recently initiated into The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi, the nation's oldest and most selective all-discipline collegiate honor society. Baker was initiated at East Carolina University.
In mid-June, Lenoir County Public Schools will launch a six-week in-person summer learning program designed to address the instructional, emotional and creative needs of K-12 students who’ve seen their school days dramatically altered – and, in some cases, upended – by the coronavirus pandemic.

Early College commencement is scheduled for 6 p.m. in Briley Auditorium of the Waller Building on the campus of Lenoir Community College, where the high school is located.

Lenoir Community College (LCC) and the University of North Carolina Wilmington (UNCW) have partnered to provide a new initiative. This initiative is intended to open pathways to undergraduate research for community college students prior to transferring to a four-year institution.
A team of ten Parrott Academy middle school students won first place in the state of North Carolina in the NC Association of Scholastic Activities art showcase competition this spring. Among the ten students, three won state championship recognition. Additionally, two Parrott high school art students have won honors in the Congressional Art Competition for North Carolina’s Third District.
