State Auditor releases finding of COVID spending by NC Dept. Of Public Instruction

On Wednesday State Auditor Beth Wood released the results of a performance audit at the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction (DPI). The audit was of Coronavirus Relief Funds allocated to the DPI from the 2020 COVID-19 Recover Act. The objectives were to ensure that Coronavirus Relief Funds were spent in accordance with the 2020 COVID-19 Recovery Act and subsequent amendments as well as that the programs that received Coronavirus Relief Funds accomplished their intended purpose.

Lenoir County Public Schools Beginning Teachers recognized by Lenoir County’s Sigma Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma

The Delta Kappa Gamma Society International is a professional honorary society of women educators. The Society promotes professional and personal growth of its members and excellence in education. Established in 1929, Delta Kappa Gamma has attained major objectives in improving opportunities for qualified women employed at every level of education, as well as in advancing the status of women educators.

Parrott students gift local food banks

Thursday November 19 ended Parrott Academy’s annual Middle School canned goods drive. The Middle School Council challenged 169 of their classmates in grades six through eight to “stock the cubbies” that line the corridor. Over the past two weeks, the kids have brought in a cornucopia of non-perishables.

Parrott kids paint poppies for vets

First grade art students at Parrott Academy recently painted vivid impressionistic poppies for Veteran’s Day. Art teacher Samantha Rouse helped her students explore the significance of the red poppy as an emblem of sacrifice from the poem “Flanders Field” by John McCrae.
