Each year the Greene County Middle School Jr. STEM Ambassadors and advisor Samantha Haislip host a toy drive for Toys For Tots. This year will be the sixth year that the students have organized the event to collect toys for local families in need. Students help assemble and wrap boxes, create flyers, and publicize the event.
On Wednesday State Auditor Beth Wood released the results of a performance audit at the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction (DPI). The audit was of Coronavirus Relief Funds allocated to the DPI from the 2020 COVID-19 Recover Act. The objectives were to ensure that Coronavirus Relief Funds were spent in accordance with the 2020 COVID-19 Recovery Act and subsequent amendments as well as that the programs that received Coronavirus Relief Funds accomplished their intended purpose.
GCMS students were able to enjoy a Zoom meeting on Monday, November 23 from esteemed author, Jewell Parker Rhodes. Rhodes' recent popular middle school novel, Ghost Boys was on GCMS's reading list this past summer.

Snow Hill Primary gives out a weekly award called "Terrific Kid" awards. Each teacher at SHP chooses a student who has been responsible, shows great character, or has reached a personal goal.
Thursday November 19 ended Parrott Academy’s annual Middle School canned goods drive. The Middle School Council challenged 169 of their classmates in grades six through eight to “stock the cubbies” that line the corridor. Over the past two weeks, the kids have brought in a cornucopia of non-perishables.
The Lenoir Community College Aerospace & Advanced Manufacturing Center, located at 3800 NC Hwy 58 in Kinston, offers classes in Computer Engineering Technology, Computer Integrated Machining, Industrial Systems Technology, and Mechanical Engineering Technology. The state-of-the-art facility reopened in the fall and was previously used for Spirit training.
LCPS will operate on a remote learning format tomorrow, Thursday, November 19 and Friday, November 20.

The St. John Free Will Baptist Church, located at 405 E. Blount Street in Kinston, brought lunch for the teachers and staff of Rochelle Middle School on Thursday. The church wanted to show appreciation for the hard work the school has done teaching both in person and virtually during the pandemic.
