Parrott Academy administrators created a special “Food Truck Friday” for senior students on October 16th. Head of School Brooks Sutton spearheaded the effort, contacting East Coast Wings and arranging for every senior to advance order his or her favorite ECW dish.

The recent Lenoir Community College Foundation Golf Classic has a special meaning for Ralph Peterson of Raleigh. He and his sons have played in the tournament since 2012 in memory of Ralph’s father, Guy Peterson, an icon at LCC for many years. This year was no different. The team led by Peterson included Mark Peterson, Walter Wells, and Steve Wiggs.

Aliza Matthews of Kinston named to James Madison University president's list
Kinston, NC resident, Aliza Matthews, has been named to the president's list at James Madison University for the summer 2020 semester. Students who earn president's list honors must carry at least 12 graded credit hours and earn a GPA of 3.900 or above. Matthews is a dance major.

Jones County Schools moving PreK-5 students to Plan A
Jones County Public Schools Board of Education voted unanimously this week to move Jones County Pre K-5 students to Plan A beginning October 26, 2020. Grades 6-12 will remain in Plan B until further notice.

Superintendent Brent Williams named 2020-2021 Southeast Region Superintendent of the Year
At Monday’s Lenoir County School Board meeting, it was announced that Superintendent Brent Williams was awarded the 2020/2021 Southeast Region Superintendent of the Year and is a nominee for State Superintendent of the Year. Today, members of the school district, school board members, county and city officials rode in their cars with signs, balloons, and even silly string as they passed Williams who thanked each participant as they drove past.

South Lenoir High School graduate Ethan Mullins of Kinston wasn’t sure what he wanted to do after high school until his junior year when his high school started its machining program in collaboration with Lenoir Community College.
Northeast Elementary School receives grant for greenhouse
Northeast Elementary received a GO Grant to create a greenhouse and garden beds, to help their students understand the food chain process and learn about ecosystems in a hands-on environment. Representative Chris Humphrey, Senator Jim Perry, Northeast Elementary principal Rashard Curmon, Board of Education chairman Keith King, Lenoir County Public Schools Assistant Superintendent Nicholas Harvey III and LCPS Associate Superintendent Francis Herring were in attendance to congratulate Northeast Elementary teacher Rubi Blancas Orduna on obtaining the grant.

LCC graphics students win top collegiate award
Two students in the Graphic Arts & Imaging Technology (GAIT) program at LCC were recently awarded top honors in this year’s student competition for printing and graphics. Jillian Wilson of Kinston and Harley Hancock of La Grange won the top collegiate award for their digital printing and package design of a “ASPCA” pop-box mailer.
