Remote learning: It’s different but it’s still school, students say

It’s a little like days gone by at the Holloman household even in these days like no other. And while Coronavirus and school closure have caused Alena Rivers to miss some keepsake moments of her senior year at Kinston High School, but having to take more responsibility for her success as a student through remote learning is a life lesson she will take to UNC, Virginia or High Point – all universities that have asked her to join their student body next fall.

LCPS personnel volunteer to keep meal distribution going over Easter

Lenoir County Public Schools personnel have volunteered to forego time off to help the district continue to distribute no-cost lunches and breakfasts during its scheduled Easter break, which begins on Friday. LCPS Child Nutrition Director Danelle Smith and Assistant Superintendent Nicholas Harvey II, whose responsibilities include oversight of student services, announced the feeding program would continue without change or interruption on Friday, a state holiday, and during the week of April 13.

U.S. Department of Commerce to Invest $2 Million to Enhance Health Sciences Sector in Kinston

WASHINGTON – Today, U.S. Secretary of Commerce Wilbur Ross announced that the Department’s Economic Development Administration (EDA) is awarding a $2 million grant to Lenoir Community College in Kinston, North Carolina, to support the renovation of the college’s Floyd Health Sciences Building. The EDA grant, to be matched with more than $5 million in state funding and $115,439 in local investment, is expected to create over 500 jobs.

LCPS names top teacher assistant, non-instructional staff for 2020-21

LCPS administrators scoured the entire school district for employees who could be fittingly honored as the top teacher assistant and top non-instructional staff member for 2020-2021. LCPS expands feeding program to include deliveries by bus

Beginning Monday, Lenoir County Public Schools is expanding its no-cost feeding program to include delivery of meals by school bus to numerous locations throughout the county.

LCPS will also continue to operate its five locations where eligible youth can pick up meals. Those sites – at Kinston, North Lenoir and South Lenoir high schools, Southeast Elementary School and E.B. Frink Middle School – are open from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. weekdays. No dine-in service is allowed.

Arendell Parrott Academy to keep campus closed through April 17

An update from Dr. Bert Bright: In the interest of safety and after consultation with many authorities, we have decided to keep our campus closed and continue online instruction through April 17, 2020. All school-related activities and ceremonies that were planned from March 16 through April 17 have been canceled, including Terra Nova testing and our prom. (Given the stated importance of the prom to our students, if we return to school later this spring we will consider rescheduling a modified prom event.)
