42nd Library Quiz Bowl brings Parrott victory

This was the 42nd year that the Kinston-Lenoir County Public Library staff has organized a Quiz Bowl competition for local high schools. Parrott Academy defeated South Lenoir in the sixth game of the Kinston-Lenoir County Public Library Quiz Bowl on March 7th to become the county champions for the fifth straight year. 

Best-ever showing sending three teams to state Science Olympiad

Teams from three schools will carry the LCPS banner into state Science Olympiad competition next month after district schools posted a best-ever performance in recent regional games.

At the Region X Science Olympiad hosted Feb. 15 by Lenoir Community College, 33 student teams from six of the district’s schools earned top five finishes, North Lenoir High School finished fifth overall in the high school division, Lenoir County Early College High School won the Spirit Award for high schools and Woodington Middle School won the Spirit Award for middle schools.

LCC student finds his calling in health field

A life-changing event that may slow some people down has not stopped James Inthalansy of La Grange. When he was 9 years old, he lost his leg in an automobile accident. While his memory since the accident has not been the best, he said he wanted to rise above it and find a career where he could work and provide a good living.

LCPS schedules winter weather makeup days

Instructional time lost to winter weather on Feb. 20-21 will be made up the first week in March. Originally scheduled as an early-out day and a teacher workday, respectively, March 5 and March 6 will now be regular school days. This calendar revision applies to schools on LCPS's traditional calendar -- that is, all schools but Lenoir County Early College High School.

Lenoir Community College Accounting 120/121 class participates in canned food drive

The Lenoir Community College Accounting 120/121 class participated in the college wide canned food drive sponsored by the Student Government Association. Pictured left to right are Ahmad Bizzell of LaGrange, Kobe Mohammed of Kinston, Business Administration Program Chair Kristy Grady, Luke Thigpen of Deep Run and Reese Jones of Kinston. All donations will be given to Mary’s Soup Kitchen.
