Arrests made after firearm discovered in traffic stop

Officers from C-Squad initiated a traffic stop and located a concealed firearm. After an investigation, officers charged Trevon Berry (27 of Cary NC) with possession of a firearm by felon and carrying a concealed gun. Nasier Taylor (22 of Warrenton NC) was also charged with carrying a concealed gun. Both were placed in the LC Jail under secured bonds.

Update: arrest made in murder investigation

**UPDATE** On July 12, 2023, KPD Violet Crime Action Team received information that Retho Gardner was hiding out at a residence on the 900 block of Candlewood Dr. Gardner had 1st Degree Murder warrants for the homicide of Franklin Bowden. After an investigation, a search warrant was obtained by detectives. KPD SWAT, Patrol, and ALE assisted with the execution of the search warrant. Gardner surrendered peacefully and was taken into custody.

KPD: Weekend shooting leaves two teens wounded

On July 9th, 2023, at approximately 3:00am Kinston Police Officers were actively patrolling the area of 1610 N. Queen St. Kinston, N.C. in reference to a large gathering that had a propensity for violence. As the party began to end officers observed individuals running from the area and heard approximately 50 gunshots.

The bipartisan safer communities act continues to serve as a model for dealmaking in Washington

One year ago, Congress took an important step to protect our rights as well as our lives. In response to rising violence across the country, the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act (BSCA) was passed and signed into law. The law effectively balances crucial Second Amendment protections with needed investments and safeguards to help mitigate the disturbing trends we’ve seen in violent crime since the pandemic.
