On May 24, 2023, officers from B-Squad responded to Taco Bell on W Vernon Ave for a report of Indecent Exposure. Officers made contact with the victims that included employees and customers (including a juvenile) and obtained a description of the subject.
Fifty-year-old Fernando Montell Hicks, the owner of Beary Smokey Smokehouse, was arrested on May 2, 2023, on felony charges of animal cruelty in Pitt County with a court date on July 12, 2023. Hicks, who stands at 6'01" and weighs 350 lbs, is currently in a pretrial status. He was given a $10,000 secured bond.
On May 21, 2023, at 08:30 am, officers from C-Squad responded to an active breaking and entering into a motor vehicle. Officers arrived on scene and the victim was was able to provide a detailed description of the subject.
Officers responded to Hines St. in Snow Hill to investigate a reported residential break-in. The home had been forcefully entered and several items had been stolen, including precious metals and family heirlooms.
The city of Kinston has approved an increase in parking violation fines from $2 to $25, following a proposal from Police Chief Keith Goyette. The decision was made after considering similar fines in nearby cities, such as Goldsboro and New Bern, where fines for parking violations range from $25 to $50.
A search warrant was executed at the Williams Loop Road residence of Christopher Dwayne Dixon in Kinston by the narcotics unit of the Lenoir County Sheriff’s Office, the LCSO’s Community Crime Reduction Team and the Kinston Police Department’s VCAT unit. The search warrant was pursuant to a narcotics investigation.
Members of KPD's Violent Crime Action Team made contact with Tyrone Koonce (31) and a 16 year old parked in Richard Green. During the encounter detectives located cocaine, MDMA (ecstasy), marijuana, and 2 concealed handguns. The investigation revealed that 1 of the firearms was stolen from Kinston.

A male inmate currently being held at Kinston’s W.E. Billy Smith Detention Center and a Rocky Mount woman not in the jail have had warrants sworn against them for felony conspiracy to smuggle narcotics into the facility, among other charges.

Breanna Summerlin was arrested April 11 after a Lenoir County Sheriff’s Office investigation revealed she had stolen a vehicle from the Blue Hornet Store, 6409 Hwy 258 S., on April 5. The victim of the larceny had left her vehicle at the store; upon her return to the store, she discovered her vehicle was missing.
Lenoir County Sheriff Jackie Rogers announced today his office is actively investigating the case of Timeka Pridgen, who was reported missing from her South Street home in La Grange on May 12, 2001. Pridgen was 16 when she went missing.
