On 10/08/2021 Officers responded to the Gifted Hands Barbershop located at 1500 W. Vernon Ave in regards to an assault. Upon arrival it was determined that three individuals came into the barbershop and assaulted a customer.

On Wednesday, October 6th, 2021, members of the Kinston Police Department Narcotics Unit concluded two narcotics investigations that spanned the course of nearly 3 months. This operation was conducted as a part of the departmentโs initiative to suppress violent crime in the city.
Michael Shane Strickland was arrested and charged with Felony Larceny and Felony Possession of stolen goods. He was confined in the Lenoir County Sheriffโs Jail under a $15,000.00 secured bond.
On Friday, September 17th, 2021, at approximately 11:45 a.m. Kinston Police Officers conducting proactive patrols located Nigel Wiggins, 24, of Kinston, N.C. walking along the 700 block of Terminal St. in Kinston with a firearm. Officers attempted contact with Wiggins and after a brief foot chase he was arrested and the firearm was recovered. Wiggins was placed in the Lenoir County Jail to await federal prosecution for Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon.

The individual in this photo was able to get away with a significant amount of money by using counterfeit checks. The incident was reported on 09-14-21 and actually occurred some months prior. Over the past few weeks the Kinston Police Department has noticed an increase in violent crime occurring in the city. As a direct response to the uptick, the Kinston Police Department has placed more officers on the street with a primary focus on violent and repeat offenders. This effort combined with a data driven approach has resulted in the following arrest.
On Friday, September 24th, 2021, members of the Kinston Police Department obtained a warrant for arrest for Donte Reynolds, 27, of Kinston for his involvement in the murder and shooting of Micro Croom and Rashad OโNeil. Reynolds was taken into custody by Kinston Police Officers with assistance from the NC SBI. Reynolds was placed in the Lenoir County Jail under no bond.
On Saturday, September 18th, 2021, at approximately 3:50 pm, Kinston Police Officers responded to shots fired near the 1100 block of Pollock St. Kinston, N.C. Officers arrived on scene and located the victim, Rashad OโNeil, 25, of Kinston. The preliminary investigation revealed that two individuals operating a white SUV drove past Mr. OโNeil and began firing shots at him from the vehicle. After the shooting the assailants fled the area.
Unknown suspect(s) broke into the Vernon Park Mall sometime between September 10, 2021 in the evening and the morning of September 16, 2021. The mall is located at 834 hardee Road in Kinston.
On Monday, September 20, 2021, at approximately 5:10 am, Kinston Police Officers responded to a call of a person who was shot near the intersection of Pollock Street and W. Washington Avenue, Kinston N.C. Officers arrived on scene and located Rashad OโNeil, 25, and Micro Croom, 59, both of Kinston suffering from gunshot wounds. Emergency Medical Personnel arrived and transported OโNeil to Vidant Medical Center and Croom was pronounced deceased
The Lenoir County Sheriff's Office was alerted a short time ago about a threat that was received by students at North Lenoir High School regarding violence that would occur today. Numerous deputies from the Sheriff's Office were sent to provide security at North Lenoir High School and to investigate the information.
The Craven County Sheriffโs Office, Duplin County Sheriffโs Office, Lenoir County Sheriffโs Office, and the Drug Enforcement administration (DEA) investigated the case and Assistant U.S. Attorneys Dena J. King and Scott A. Lemmon prosecuted the case.

Detectives seized just over three ounces of crystal methamphetamine during the investigation.
On July 21, 2021, Joshua Zachariah Allen Lane of Kinston, North Carolina was arrested, pursuant to a narcotics investigation conducted by the Lenoir County Sheriff's Office Narcotics Unit. During the investigation Detectives made multiple controlled purchases of crystal methamphetamine from Lane in the Lenoir County area. Detectives seized just over four ounces of crystal methamphetamine during the investigation.
