Golontae Yarquez Brock was taken into custody this morning by members of the Kinston Police Department and the United States Marshal’s service at a home in Martin County. Mr. Brock was charged with Attempted Murder and five counts of Discharging a Weapon into Occupied Property Causing Serious Injury. Mr. Brock was transported to the Pitt County Detention Center and held under a $1.5 million bond.

The Kinston Police Department is asking for the public’s assistance in identifying the following people related to a shooting that occurred on June 25, 2020.
Kinston Police: Stolen vehicle strikes house, injures three
Kinston Police reported that for several weeks the citizens of Kinston and Lenoir County have been victimized by overnight car thefts and car break-ins. This morning around 4:15 officers responded to a call from a homeowner on the 2500 block of Hodges Road in reference to someone attempting to break into his vehicle.
Police make arrest in shooting on Cameron Drive
On June 29th, officers located a suspect vehicle from a shooting on June 11, 2020, which occurred on Cameron Drive in Kinston. Officer initiated a vehicle stop and located three handguns and 200 grams of marijuana in the vehicle. One of the handguns was determined to be stolen from Martin County.
One injured after shooting, crash - police investigating
On June 29, 2020 at approximately 12:41 pm, officers with the Kinston Police Department were dispatched to a motor vehicle wreck on Hwy. 11 north near Mewborn Avenue. Before officers arrived on the scene, they were advised shots had been fired at that location and some subjects had fled the scene.
Enforcing Governor Cooper's Executive Order mandating face coverings
In an executive order announced on Wednesday, Gov. Roy Cooper extended Phase 2 of reopening North Carolina until July 17 and made face coverings mandatory in public. The mask requirements take effect Friday, June 26 at 5 p.m. In a recent Facebook post, Jones County Sheriff Danny Heath stated, “NO, I will not be enforcing the wearing of face masks! Be careful and responsible and make your own decision.”
NC pauses in Safer At Home Phase 2, adds statewide requirement for face coverings
Governor Roy Cooper and North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services Secretary Dr. Mandy Cohen yesterday announced that North Carolina will remain in Safer at Home Phase 2 for three more weeks. Cooper also announced that face coverings must be worn when people are in public places as officials seek to stabilize concerning trends of increasing viral spread.
NC News: SHP responds to slow driver protest on I-40
RALEIGH - On Wed., June 24 at approximately 8:57 a.m., the State Highway Patrol responded to I-40 in Wake County due to several vehicles traveling at a slow rate of speed near the 298 mile marker. The vehicles in question were traveling at approximately ten miles per hour while blocking all westbound travel lanes to include the emergency lane.
LCSO makes drug arrests
On June 11, 2020, members with the Lenoir County Sheriff's Office and Kinston Police Department served a search warrant at 1405 Centennial Trail Kinston, North Carolina. The search warrant was the result of an ongoing joint investigation between the Lenoir County Sheriff's Office and Kinston Police Department Narcotics Units. Detectives arrested four subjects as a result of the investigation on state drug and weapon charge:

Chief Justice Cheri Beasley has entered three additional emergency orders in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. The orders extend several existing emergency directives, extend the time for filing a notice of appeal, stay all pending evictions, and create a new mediation program for evictions.
Sheriff's Office: Felony arrest made in child sexual assault case
On May 25, Benjamin Medeiros was arrested in New Bedford, Massachusetts for warrants with charges of first degree rape (3 counts) and indecent liberties with a child (3 counts). Medeiros will be processed to be extradited back to North Carolina for these charges.

On 05/20/2020 at 11:34 p.m., Kinston Police responded to 607 E. Highland Ave. Kinston, NC in reference to a subject that had been shot. Officers arrived on scene and located a 34-year-old Black male with multiple gunshot wounds to the body. The victim was pronounced dead on scene.
