The threat for severe thunderstorms continues to increase for Monday, March 16. This has the potential to be a significant severe weather event. In addition to tomorrow, there is a marginal risk of severe thunderstorms Sunday and Sunday night.
A beloved holiday tradition in Lenoir County is at risk after strong winds destroyed the permanent drive-in movie screen at the Lenoir County Fairgrounds over the weekend. The Rotaract Club of Lenoir County, which has hosted the Annual Drive-In Movie Night for the past five years, is now asking for the community’s help to rebuild in time for this December’s event.
Minor to moderate coastal flooding is forecast for soundside locations from the northern Outer Banks southward to Frisco. Additionally, wind gusts of 45-50 mph are likely along the coast and near 40 mph for inland areas. A widespread 2-3" of rainfall is expected but a flash flood threat remains negligible.
We are expecting a period of strong (Gale Force) northerly winds beginning tonight and continuing into Wednesday morning.
There is increasing confidence that strong S to SW winds ahead of a cold front will bring at least minor impacts to the region on Saturday.
An active week starts today, with dangerous heat indices of 105-110 degrees expected today. Then, late this afternoon and especially this evening, strong to severe thunderstorms are possible, bringing a threat for damaging winds and torrential downpours with localized flooding. Some large hail and frequent lightning may accompany the storms as well.
