Sometimes, I receive an email introducing me to an area of knowledge I did not know existed. One reader sent me information about “Alpha-gal” Syndrome (AGS). Of course, I am familiar with the term “Alpha Male,” so when I first started reading, I thought “Alpha-gal” was the female version of the “Alpha Male” term.

Following a thorough safety review, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the Food and Drug Administration have confidence that the Johnson & Johnson vaccine is safe and effective in preventing COVID-19 and recommend its continued use to prevent serious illness, hospitalization and death from COVID-19.
Discrimination, in addition to being wrong, is foolishly self-destructive. It keeps companies from hiring the best people and serving the most customers. It throttles innovation. It makes our families and communities poorer. When only white men were allowed to become doctors, for example, that artificially restricted the quantity and quality of medical care. One reason we are, on average, much healthier than our grandparents and great-grandparents is that healers of great skill, daring, and determination smashed through that barrier.

Why do I write this? Not to give the impression that I have something against medicine, and certainly not to make anyone feel bad about their choices. I do it because even though I’m not against medication, I am against giving unnecessary medication.
