A crowd filled the Kinston Community Center on Wednesday for the annual Senior Appreciation Day and Elder Abuse Awareness Walk, a community-wide event honoring Older Americans Month and World Elder Abuse Awareness Day. Held under the national theme “Flip the Script on Aging,” the celebration aimed to both uplift the senior population and raise awareness about the critical issue of elder abuse.

Membership with the Kinston Community Center goes beyond traditional fitness. In addition to the fitness classes, therapeutic and competitive pools, and gymnasium, membership also includes beneficial perks that include Lions Water Adventure and discounted access to banquet facilities.
With COVID-19 precautions in place that include temperature checks upon entering the building, a face-covering requirement throughout the building, and daily closures for deep cleaning, the center wants its patrons to be safe so that they enjoy their time exercising. Classes are available Monday through Friday starting at 8:00 am with the latest class of the week starting at 6:30 pm. Popular land classes include Zumba, Cycling, Piloga, Line Dancing, and Cherish the Chairs. Aqua classes include Hydro Fitness, Deep Water, Aqua Tai Chi, Aqua Arthritis, and Fibro H20. There is also an option for those who cannot make the scheduled classes.
The Kinston Community Center is meeting and exceeding the COVID guidelines to offer a safe and enjoyable way to meet the New Year's resolutions set by incoming and continued members.
