Kinston Police Department: Case Update
CASE UPDATE
On September 28, 2026, detectives with the Kinston-Lenoir Drug Task Force continued their investigation into Khalil Dail regarding the distribution of marijuana.
During the investigation, detectives received information regarding the involvement of Latoya Smith, 46, Dail’s mother. Detectives conducted a traffic stop on Smith, and she was taken into custody. During the stop, detectives seized $8,100 in U.S. currency.
Smith was charged with:
• Felony Conspiracy to Traffic Marijuana
• Felony Maintaining a Dwelling
On September 29, detectives returned to a residence on the 700 block of Edwards Avenue and took Korielle Dail, 22, into custody for his involvement in the distribution of marijuana. Korielle Dail is the brother of Khalil Dail.
Korielle Dail was charged with:
• Felony Conspiracy to Traffic Marijuana
• Two Counts of Trafficking in Marijuana
Detectives also obtained warrants for Nijear Nicholas-Singleton for Felony Conspiracy to Traffic Marijuana in connection with this investigation. Nicholas-Singleton is currently receiving medical treatment for an unrelated incident. The warrant will be served once he is medically cleared.
Singleton was also the subject of a manhunt in August 2026 after a vehicle pursuit ended in Jones County.
Additionally, detectives obtained further warrants on Khalil Dail for:
• Three Counts of Felony Conspiracy to Traffic Marijuana
• Two Counts of Trafficking in Marijuana
The additional warrants were served on Dail while he was being held in the Lenoir County Jail.

Kinston-Lenoir Drug Task Force Makes Trafficking Arrest
Detectives with the Kinston-Lenoir Drug Task Force initiated an investigation into Khalil Dail, 27, regarding his suspected involvement in the trafficking and distribution of marijuana. During the investigation, detectives gathered evidence indicating Dail was actively involved in distributing marijuana within Lenoir County.
On September 27, 2026, detectives with the Drug Task Force conducted a traffic stop involving Dail. During the stop, Dail fled on foot but was taken into custody a short distance away without further incident.
A search of the vehicle resulted in the seizure of approximately 30 pounds of marijuana from the trunk.
As part of the investigation, detectives also obtained and executed search warrants at residences on the 700 block of Edwards Avenue and the 5000 block of Braxton Road.
In addition to the marijuana, detectives seized more than $6,000 in cash, three handguns, and Oxycodone pills.
Dail was placed in the Lenoir County Jail without bond on the following charges:
• Two counts of Trafficking in Marijuana
• Possession With Intent to Sell or Deliver Marijuana
• Felony Possession of Marijuana
• Two counts of Felony Maintaining a Dwelling for Controlled Substances
• Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon
• Simple Possession of a Schedule II Controlled Substance
• Resisting, Delaying, or Obstructing a Public
