LaGrange Man Arrested After Breaking and Entering at Down East Homes
On August 14, 2026, at approximately 1:17 p.m., Lenoir County Sheriff’s Office D-Shift Deputies responded to Down East Homes on West New Bern Road in Kinston in reference to a reported breaking and entering.
Upon arrival, deputies were advised that one of the company’s display homes had been entered and furniture had been stolen. Deputies gathered information from the reporting party and canvassed the area for available security camera footage.
During the investigation, deputies obtained a possible suspect vehicle description from surveillance footage. D-Shift and A-Shift Deputies worked together to locate the vehicle. A-Shift Deputies were able to identify the vehicle on the Flock Camera System in the area during the time the breaking and entering occurred.
Later that night, deputies located the vehicle in the LaGrange area. Deputies interviewed the vehicle owner and one of the passengers, which led investigators to identify a possible suspect, Jhamal Clifton Baldwin, 37, of LaGrange.
On August 15, D-Shift Deputies continued their investigation and learned that Baldwin was currently on probation. Deputies contacted NC Probation and Parole and were able to confirm that Baldwin was present at the scene at the time of the breaking and entering.
Deputies obtained an arrest warrant for Baldwin and later located him at an apartment in Carver Courts in Kinston. Baldwin was taken into custody without further incident.
Baldwin was transported to the Lenoir County Magistrate’s Office, where he was charged with:
Felony Breaking and Entering
Felony Larceny After Breaking and Entering
Baldwin was transported to the W. E. “Billy” Smith Detention Center, where he was initially held with no bond due to pretrial release conditions.
Baldwin made his first appearance in Lenoir County District Criminal Court on August 17, 2026, where he received a $55,000 secured bond.
