Lenoir Community College, Airbus partner to expand workforce training
Lenoir Community College and Airbus have formalized a new partnership to provide customized workforce training for Airbus employees, strengthening the company's ability to develop and maintain a highly skilled aerospace workforce in eastern North Carolina.
College President Dr. Rusty Hunt and Airbus Vice President and General Manager Marc Swinkels signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) on Thursday at LCCโs Senator Jim Perry Aviation Center for Excellence. Through the partnership, LCC will provide training for new Airbus employees, as well as recertification training to help current employees maintain required credentials.
"Today is a historic day for Lenoir Community College and an exciting milestone in our partnership with Airbus," Hunt said. "Over the past several months, we've worked together to develop this agreement and identify how LCC can best support Airbus and its workforce. We're grateful for Airbus' trust in the College and look forward to building on this partnership in the years ahead."
The agreement reflects Airbus' commitment to investing in the local community by partnering with LCC to deliver high-quality workforce training that supports its employees and operations.
"This is just one of many milestones we will achieve together," said Swinkels. "This partnership creates a great opportunity for our local community while helping us build the skilled workforce needed to support aerospace manufacturing in eastern North Carolina. We are fortunate to have a partner like Lenoir Community College so close to our facility."
The partnership also reinforces the mission of LCC's Aviation Center for Excellence, which was designed to support aviation and aerospace employers through customized workforce training, technical education, and industry partnerships.
"That's exactly why this building was built," Hunt said. "As Airbus continues to grow, LCC is committed to providing the training and support needed to help the company succeed while strengthening our region's workforce."
Airbus will host a hiring event on Tuesday, August 11, for individuals interested in career opportunities with Airbus. Additional details about the event will be announced soon.
