Obituary: Janice Earl Oakley Pike

Janice Earl Oakley Pike, 74, passed away peacefully on June 23, 2026, and entered the loving arms of her Savior, Jesus Christ.

Janice was a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, friend, and follower of Christ whose life was marked by love, hard work, and unwavering dedication to her family. She retired from the Lenoir County Department of Social Services after many years of service, where she touched countless lives through her compassion and commitment to helping others.

She found joy in life's simple pleasures. Janice loved spending time at the beach, working in her yard, tending to her beautiful plants, and caring for her beloved cat. She never met an online shopping opportunity she didn't enjoy, and one of her greatest joys was holding a baby in her arms. Children held a special place in her heart, especially her grandson, Braylen, and great-grandson, Jayce, whom she loved dearly.

As a single mother, Janice worked tirelessly for many years to provide a loving and stable home for her two children. Her strength, determination, and sacrifices were a testament to her deep love for her family. She was proud of the life she built and the family she nurtured.

Her faith was the foundation of her life. Janice eventually found her church home at Grimsley OFWB Church in Snow Hill, where she grew in her relationship with the Lord and found a church family she dearly loved. Her faith in Jesus Christ gave her comfort, purpose, and hope throughout her life.

In her later years, Janice was blessed to reconnect with a former work colleague, Mr. Billy Pike. Their relationship brought her great happiness, and she spent her final years surrounded by his love, care, and companionship.

Janice is survived by her husband Billy Pike, brother Tony Oakley, son Samuel Kevin Shingleton, stepson Billy Pike (Pamela) daughter Crystal Kayland Howard (Jeremy), stepdaughter Cynthia Free (Mike), grandson Braylen Oakley Taylor, step grandsons Dustin Pike (Brittney), Brandon Pike, Jason Free, step granddaughters Janice Faith Howard, Michelle Latham (Andrew) step great-grandsons Kolsyn Jayce Howard, Wyatt Pike.

Though our hearts are broken, we take comfort in knowing that Janice is now at peace in the presence of her Lord and Savior. Her kindness, strength, faith, and love for her family will continue to live on in all who knew her.

"Well done, good and faithful servant."

โ€” Matthew 25:23
