Obituary: Annette Cheshire Strain

Annette Cheshire Strain, 77, passed away peacefully on May 14, 2026. Born on September 25, 1948, in Lumberton, Annette spent most of her life in Kinston, where she lovingly raised her family and built a life centered around devotion, strength, and unwavering love.

A visitation will be held on Friday, May 22, 2026, from 1pm-2pm at Queen Street United Methodist Church, with a service immediately after. Burial will follow at Westview Cemetery, where she will be laid to rest beside her husband of almost 30 years.

A lifelong member of Queen Street United Methodist Church, Annette faithfully served her church community through the women’s committee and as a youth group leader. Her faith and servant’s heart touched many lives throughout the years.

Annette will be remembered for her strength, quick sense of humor, and the love she poured into her family throughout her life. Growing up, she enjoyed sports and carried that passion with her into adulthood, fostering the same love in both of her children. Much of their lives were spent together at ballfields where they played, cheered, laughed, and always supported one another. Those moments became some of the family’s most treasured memories.

She also enjoyed playing softball herself and was a longtime member of a bowling league, where her competitive spirit and fun loving personality shined. Whether on the field, at the bowling alley, or surrounded by family, Annette brought warmth, laughter, and encouragement wherever she went. Her legacy is one of resilience, dedication, humor, faith, and deep love for her family. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who knew and loved her

Annette was preceded in death by her husband, Coy “Mike” Strain; her son, Michael Strain; her parents, Carey and Teachie Cheshire; and brother-in-law, Hobert “Ike” Sanderson.

She is survived by her daughter, Tracy Howard; her grandchildren, Chase Strain, Sarah Beth Howard, and Katie Howard; her brother, Doug Cheshire and wife Emily; her sister, Linda Barrow and husband Kent; her sister, Denise Sanderson; and several beloved nieces and nephews.
