Letter to the Editor: "Easter is a Reminder"

Evelyn Dove Coleman's piece, "Easter is a Reminder" calls us to remember Jesus set the example of how to live a life pleasing to God, and that is why Passover--not Easter--reminds us of the Savior's sacrificial love He demonstrated so fully by becoming our Passover (I Corinthians 5:7).

The Geneva Bible, which predates the King James Version, reads as "Passover" and not "Easter" in Acts 12:4 and is a correct translation from the original Greek manuscripts.

The term Easter is thought to have ties to a false goddess known by many names, two being Ashtoreth and the queen of heaven that are mentioned several times in the Old Testament: Judges 2:13; Judges 10:6; I Samuel 7:3-4; I Samuel 12:10; I Kings 11:5,33; II Kings 23:13; Jeremiah 7:18; Jeremiah 44:17-25.

Upon reading those passages, one will learn how God feels about false deities and it is not admiration.

Returning to the topic of love, yes we are to love one another, but we are to love the LORD first and foremost (Deuteronomy 6:5; Matthew 22:37-38; Mark 12:30) and that entails doing what is pleasing to Him, so will you join me as part of the "circumcision of Christ" (Colossians 2:11) and "pass over" Easter in honor of the Lamb slain Who became the New Covenant's Passover?
