Gifted Gala showcases student innovation, voice and passion

Lenoir County Public Schools hosted its largest AIG Gifted Gala to date Tuesday, bringing together more than 250 students to showcase the projects and passions that have defined their learning this year.

The event featured a wide variety of learning experiences that reflected the depth of opportunities available to students across the district. Displays included STEM-focused robotics and innovation projects, workforce development through Career and Technical Education student organizations, and creative work such as art, writing and student technology innovation groups.

What set the evening apart was not only the projects, but the conversations taking place around them.

“What makes the Gifted Gala so special is that students aren’t just presenting, they’re engaging in meaningful conversations about their learning,” said Melissa Lynch, AIG and digital learning director. “Watching them explain their process, reflect on challenges, and answer questions with confidence is incredible to witness.”

Students spoke in detail about how they approached their work, the challenges they faced and the strategies they used to overcome them. The result was an event that highlighted both academic growth and personal confidence.

“Meeting students where they are is at the heart of great teaching,” Lynch said. “AIG services ensure that students who are ready to go beyond grade-level expectations continue to grow, explore and stay engaged in meaningful ways.”

Superintendent Brent Williams said the event reflects the district’s commitment to creating meaningful learning experiences.

“This event is a celebration of what happens when students are given the space to think deeply, create boldly and share their learning with others,” Williams said. “You can see the pride on their faces and hear it in their voices. That kind of engagement is what education is all about.”

With its largest turnout yet, the AIG Gifted Gala continues to grow as a signature event that showcases student achievement and the impact of personalized learning across Lenoir County Public Schools.
