Obituary: Wayne Jeffrey Lane
Wayne Jeffrey Lane, 65, passed away on Friday, October 30, 2026. Born in Wayne County on February 10, 1961, he was the son of the late Kenneth Arnold Lane and Carol Ann Coltrain Lane.
In addition to his parents, Jeff was preceded in death by his first wife, Cynthia Harrison Lane and brother, Jerry Lane.
Jeff is survived by his wife of 24 years, Janet O. Lane; children, Scarlett Lane, Travis Lane, and Brittany Daughtry (Craig); grandchildren, Samuel, Willow, Nathan, and Caroline; sister, Sandra Lane Wiggins (Kenny); brother, Micky Lane; nephew and nieces, Matthew, Amanda, Leslie, and Laura; and several beloved aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Jeff will be remembered for his dedication to his work, his love of family, and the many friendships he built throughout his life. He dedicated an extraordinary 47 years of service to Piggly Wiggly, where he worked in retail management. Beginning his career at just 15 years old, Jeff grew with the company and devoted nearly his entire working life to an organization he proudly served until his retirement.
Retirement did not mean slowing down for Jeff. He continued working alongside his lifelong friend, Nick Bartlett, helping with his Little Debbie delivery route. This gave Jeff the opportunity to stay busy while spending time with a dear friend, something he truly enjoyed.
Away from work, Jeff had a passion for hockey and was an avid Carolina Hurricanes fan. He loved cheering on his favorite team and sharing in the excitement of the game. His faith was also an important part of his life, and he attended The First Church in Goldsboro.
Above all, Jeff cherished his family. They were his greatest joy, and nothing brought him greater happiness than spending time with those he loved. Of all the roles he held throughout his life, perhaps none was more special to him than being "Pa Jeff" to his grandchildren. He relished every moment with them and took great pride in the love and memories they shared.
The family will receive friends from 11:00 – 11:45 a.m. on Wednesday, November 4, 2026 at Rouse Funeral Home, followed by service to celebrate Jeff’s life will in the chapel at 12:00 p.m. with Pastor Bill Rose and Pastor Brian Rogers officiating. Interment will follow the service at Fairview Cemetery.
