Greene commissioners to consider hearing on former industrial park rezoning Nov. 2

Greene commissioners to consider hearing on former industrial park rezoning Nov. 2

Greene County commissioners will consider scheduling a public hearing on a proposal to rezone former industrial park property in Walstonburg for residential use when they meet Monday, Nov. 2.

The meeting begins at 10 a.m. at the Greene County Operations Center.

County Manager Kyle DeHaven will ask the board to set the hearing for Nov. 16 to consider rezoning parcels identified in the agenda as the former NW Industrial Park from industrial to residential.

The Nov. 2 action would schedule the hearing. Commissioners would consider approval of the rezoning at a later meeting.

Planning Director Brandon Sutton’s written request says commissioners will receive the rezoning application, the Planning Board’s recommendation and additional information before the hearing.

The request follows an Oct. 19 vote to remove protective covenants from county property intended for residential use.

According to draft minutes included in the packet, commissioners unanimously approved rescinding the covenants for the I-587 Business Campus after an earlier decision to sell the property for residential use. DeHaven told commissioners that removing the covenants was necessary to facilitate the intended sale and that a rezoning hearing would be requested at a subsequent meeting.

The agenda materials do not detail the proposed housing development, the number of homes or a construction schedule.

Commissioners also will consider accepting USDA Rural Development funding conditions for a proposed new senior center.

The agenda includes approval of the Oct. 19 meeting minutes, consideration of late property tax relief applications and tax releases and refunds.

Residents wishing to address commissioners must sign up on the sheet near the entrance before the meeting begins. Speakers may address the board for up to three minutes under its public comment policy.
