Evelyn Dove Coleman: No More Pain
Evangelist David Ring passed on to Glory in September at the age of 72. I was introduced to David years ago through his singing the song "Victory In Jesus." It is online with him clearly enunciating the lyrics despite his difficulty speaking. Diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy, he became an orphan as a child. But he used his testimony of overcoming adversity to bring faith and hope to millions. Now he has no more pain.
David was known for speaking in churches and at conferences where he described his story of being placed to the side at birth because doctors believed he had died during childbirth. But he didn't! He would often end his sermons by asking the audiences what are you able-bodied people going to do from this day forward. He motivated many to repent and do life better.
I related so much to David because I, too, was placed to the side when I gave birth to twins. Doctors thought I didn't make it. I had been rushed to UNC Hospital by ambulance from another hospital because UNC's Dr. Thorpe was a specialist in emergency deliveries. I only remember praying "God save us" before I passed out. Next thing I knew, two candy-stripers were holding my babies in their arms and saying to me "Your babies need you." Later the nurses told me that candy-stripers don't work at night and my babies had never left the Neonatal Nursery. They said it must have been angels. Now, like David Ring, I share a few of my experiences of overcoming obstacles until there's no more pain.
