NC State Board of Elections formally certifies Kareem Moore as Kinston Mayor
The North Carolina State Board of Elections has formally certified Kareem Moore as the duly elected mayor.
Certification by the State Board is the final step in the election process. It affirms that all protests and appeals have been resolved and that the election results are official under North Carolina law.
With certification complete, no further legal or administrative actions are required for Moore to assume office. The remaining step is procedural. Moore must take the oath of office to be sworn in as mayor.
State law does not require the oath to occur during a regularly scheduled council meeting. The oath may be administered as soon as practicable by an authorized official, which means Moore could be sworn in before the next City Council meeting if arrangements are made.
Once the oath is taken, Moore immediately assumes the full powers and duties of mayor.
