Obituary: Hazel Moore Loftin

On Wednesday, September 17, 2025, Hazel Moore Loftin, 92, of Kinston, NC transitioned to the arms of her waiting husband, Garland A. Loftin, in Heaven.

Hazel was the youngest of three children born to Daisy Bell Taylor and William Lee Moore of Jones County. Hazel worked for 27 years at DuPont in the personnel department. Following her retirement, she briefly held a series of fun and temporary positions in the area. During her life she was busy within her church communities participating in various activities and singing alto in both Grainger Baptist and Shady Grove church choirs. Hazel was also active in the Lenoir County Association of Retarded Citizens, an avid supporter of the Jones County Historical Society and the Forever Young Club, and a charter member of the Fox Trotter’s dance group.

Hazel will always be remembered for her work ethic and her drive to tackle anything she desired, for her convictions, for her support and advocacy of family members, and for never altering Saturday night’s menu of homemade spaghetti.

She is survived by her three children, Debra L. Loftin, Laurie L. Moorhead (Kevin), and Gavin A. Loftin; three grandchildren, L. Wayne Cunningham (Debbie), Stephen L. Cunningham (Sarah), and Emerson T. Moorhead; six great-grandchildren; and a great great-grandchild.

A Celebration of Life will be held Friday, September 26 at 11 am at Shady Grove Church. Burial will be private.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Shady Grove Church, 4375 Middle Rd, Trenton, NC 28585.
