KPD arrests armed suspect following disturbance

On July 30, 2025, at approximately 10:30 p.m., officers with the Kinston Police Department’s B-Squad responded to a reported disturbance on the 900 block of Herbert Drive.

Upon arrival, officers determined that 59-year-old Roderick Coples had been involved in a verbal altercation with a family member. During the altercation, Coples pointed a firearm at the victim.

Officers recovered the firearm at the scene and took Coples into custody without incident. He was transported to the Lenoir County Jail, where he was booked without bond due to being on pre-trial release. Coples faces charges of Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon and Assault by Pointing a Gun.
