Jones County Sheriff’s Office: Public Service Announcement – SCAM ALERT

Public Service Announcement – SCAM ALERT

The Jones County Sheriff’s Office has received reports of a scam involving someone falsely claiming to be one of our deputies—possibly using names like “Lt. Burner” or “Sgt. Bonniville.”

This individual is contacting citizens, stating they missed an appointment or court date and must turn themselves in immediately. They are also instructing people to stay on the phone with them until they arrive at the Sheriff’s Office.

THIS IS A SCAM.

Our deputies will never call you to demand you turn yourself in or ask you to remain on the phone during travel.

If you receive a call like this:

• Do not engage.

• Do not provide personal information.

• Hang up immediately.

• Report the incident to our office at 252 448-0035 or the Maysville PD at 910 743- 3104

Please help us spread the word and protect your friends and family—stay alert, stay informed, and don’t fall victim to this scam.
