VEGETABLES, FRUITS, AND GREENS
Freshly Picked from Porter Farms, TC Smith Produce & Gregory Gardens
Y’all... right now is the peak of our local produce season! There is so much fresh produce grown right here in Lenoir County soil. It’s the perfect time to have vegetables on your table at every meal — it just doesn’t get any better than this.
Yes, it’s incredibly hot, but think how much hotter it is for the farmers who grow, harvest, load, deliver, unload, and sell this produce — all in the same stifling heat. That’s a tough day.
Let’s make the effort to leave our air-conditioned homes, drive to the market, and support these farmers who bring us fresh produce, eggs, native plants, baked goods, and handcrafted items.
Here’s what you can expect this weekend:
PRODUCE
Canary melons, yellow and Black Jack watermelons, corn (shucked and unshucked), okra, string beans, cantaloupe, squash, zucchini, onions, bell peppers, jalapeños, red and white potatoes, sweet pickling cucumbers, long green cucumbers, green tomatoes, Cherokee Purple tomatoes, and Romas.
There will also be a wide variety of jams, jellies, marinades, pickles, and relishes.
B & B EGGS & CRAFTS
Sandra will have her delicious pasture-raised chicken eggs. She’s also looking for 12-count egg cartons — if you have some to recycle, bring them along!
ARTS AND CRAFTS
T & J Designs returns with lovely home décor, wreaths, and flags. Sandra of B & B has also created new decoupage jar vases.
LOCAL PLANTS
Above the Briery
Karen Mulcahey will be on-site with her amazing selection of North Carolina native plants.
"It’s hot out there, but native plants don’t care!"
Native plants thrive because they’re adapted to our climate and support local wildlife — even in pots! Look for Anise Hyssop (a goldfinch favorite), Black-Eyed Susans, Mountain Mints, Asters, Bluestar, Spotted Horsemint, Coreopsis, and more. Plus, there’ll be local honey available!
BAKED GOODS
Sandra at B & B Eggs & Crafts
Try her famous “Liquid Gold” banana nut bread — free samples available!
Seraphim Smith
He’s back this week with sun-dried tomato garlic parmesan bread. Generous samples will be offered — come taste for yourself!
MARY & DAVID’S FARM
They’ll have plain, roasted, and candied pecans. If you haven’t tried them, beware — they’re addictive!
Also, Mary Ann’s granddaughter will be joining them with handmade bracelets. Come support this young entrepreneur!
GRANOLA, COFFEE CAKES & LOCAL HONEY
Katherine and Pat
Stop by for samples of their all-natural “It’s Holy Granola!” and the always-popular “A Little Taste of Heaven” cinnamon pecan coffee cake. Quantities are limited, so shop early or text 252-560-1617 to reserve or pre-order.
They’ll also have samples of their wildflower honey.
JULIE BABBIN
Julie will offer handmade ice cream made with local and seasonal ingredients — the perfect treat on a hot day. She’ll also have sunflowers, hot sauce, and rosemary bread.
THE PORK SKIN MAN
Rodney will be there with pork skins, pork rinds, fried peanuts, and funnel cakes. He’s open Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday.
We hope to see you Saturday — come hungry and bring a friend!
