Jury convicts Torrence Howard in 2021 murder case
On July 11, 2025, a jury found Torrence Howard guilty of First Degree Murder and Possession of a Firearm by a Felon. The charges stemmed from the 2021 murder of Gabrielle Wendt, who was tragically killed in her home.
Kinston Police Department detectives worked tirelessly to investigate this case and build a strong foundation for prosecution. We are extremely grateful to the Lenoir County District Attorney’s Office for their dedication and hard work in preparing this case for trial, which ultimately led to the jury’s conviction.
Howard was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole for First Degree Murder and an additional 17 to 30 months for Possession of a Firearm by a Felon.
Our thoughts and prayers remain with Gabrielle' family and loved ones. We hope this verdict brings them some measure of peace as they continue to heal.
