Investigation leads to arrest following attempted robbery and shooting

On June 30, 2025, Kinston Police officers responded to a report of a gunshot victim in the 1300 block of McAdoo Street. Upon arrival, officers located Jamell Howard, 37, of Kinston, who had sustained a gunshot wound to the leg. Howard was transported to ECU Health for treatment while detectives initiated an investigation.

Through their efforts, investigators determined that Howard was shot while attempting to rob an individual. Detectives subsequently obtained warrants for Howard’s arrest on the following charges: Attempted Common Law Robbery, Conspiracy to Commit Armed Robbery, and Communicating Threats.

On July 3, 2025, Howard was taken into custody and placed in the Lenoir County Jail under a secured bond.
