Arrest made following workplace altercation at Smithfield Packing

On June 24, 2025, officers from the Kinston Police Department’s B-Squad responded to a report of a fight at Smithfield Packing.

Upon arrival, officers conducted an investigation which revealed that William Cain, 47, of Fayetteville, NC, and an employee at the facility, had pulled a pocket knife during an altercation with a co-worker. Cain swung the knife at the victim and made contact, though the victim was not injured or cut.

Cain was arrested at the scene without further incident. He has been charged with Assault with a Deadly Weapon and was transported to the Lenoir County Jail, where he is being held under a secured bond.
