Kinston teen charged in robbery and firearm Incident involving juvenile
Incident: Robbery and Firearm Offense
Date: June 20, 2025
On June 20, 2025, at approximately 4:19 p.m., officers from the Kinston Police Department’s C-Squad responded to the intersection of Bynum Boulevard and Colgate Drive in reference to a report of a pedestrian struck by a vehicle and possible gunshots.
KPD Detectives also responded to the scene and began an investigation into the incident. The preliminary investigation revealed the following:
Davian Cantey, 18, of Kinston, arranged to meet a 16-year-old female juvenile for the purpose of selling a firearm. During the exchange, Cantey reportedly took money from the juvenile’s hands. As the juvenile reached into the vehicle in an attempt to retrieve the money, a shot was fired inside the vehicle. The driver then fled the scene, causing the juvenile to fall to the ground.
Cantey was located a short distance from the scene and taken into custody. At the time of his arrest, he was found in possession of a firearm. He has been charged with the following offenses:
-Common Law Robbery
-Sell/Give Firearm to a Minor
Cantey was transported to the Lenoir County Jail and placed under a secured bond.
The juvenile was transported to UNC Lenoir for treatment of minor injuries sustained from falling from the vehicle.
This case remains under active investigation. Additional charges may be forthcoming as the investigation continues.
