Downtown business launches t-shirt brand in memory of late father, “Buddy Roe”

After the recent loss of his father, Jerry Potter, Brandon Potter found a way to keep his dad’s memory alive—through ink, fabric, and a familiar nickname beloved by many.

This Father’s Day, Potter officially launched a new T-shirt brand in honor of his father, known affectionately around Lenoir County as “Buddy Roe.” The brand’s debut collection features original designs that celebrate family, tradition, and small-town values, just like the man who inspired them.

“My dad was the original Buddy Roe,” Potter said. “To us, it wasn’t just a nickname—it was who he was. And everyone’s got someone like that in their life.”

The shirts are produced by Potter’s local business, Magic Mile Screen Printing Company, and sold under the “Buddy Roe” brand name. The first three designs—“Give Me Liberty,” “Made in America,” and “We The People”—are already available online and feature patriotic themes with a personal, down-home twist.

“These shirts are meant for all the Buddy Roes out there,” said Potter. “The folks you set off fireworks with, grill with, fish with—people who make your life what it is.”

Printed on super-soft, unisex 100% cotton tees from sizes Youth XS to Adult 3XL, the shirts are available for local pickup and shipping. Potter encourages orders to be placed by June 25 to ensure delivery in time for the 4th of July.

In launching the brand, Potter said he wanted to build something meaningful for his own family, while offering others a way to honor the “Buddy Roe” in theirs.

“He was one of a kind,” Potter said of his dad. “But this way, he gets to live on—in every laugh, every barbecue, every family memory.”
