PINK HILL — Brandon Marshburn has been appointed to the Pink Hill Board of Commissioners following the resignation of longtime commissioner Pete Fantini, town officials confirmed.

Marshburn, 40, was sworn in during the town board’s May meeting after receiving a unanimous vote of approval. His appointment follows Fantini’s recommendation and comes as the board begins work on several local priorities, including infrastructure and event planning.

“I am honored to be asked to fill this position for Commissioner Fantini and thank him for trusting in me,” Marshburn said. “I am hopeful and excited for the future of the Town of Pink Hill and ready to serve the town, its citizens, and the community in any way possible.”

Marshburn, a lifelong Pink Hill resident, works alongside his father as a machinist at Custom Machine Works, a family-owned business established in 1996. He and his wife, Rhiley Marshburn, have an 18-month-old daughter named Kennedy. Rhiley has been active in several community committees, and town officials cited the couple’s longstanding commitment to local service.

Mayor Mike Horne praised the outgoing commissioner and his wife for their contributions to the town.

“I would like to thank Commissioner Fantini for his time serving our town and also his wife, Kristen Fantini, for all her efforts on the festivals to help make them big successful events,” Horne said in a public statement. “They will be missed.”

Fantini, who served six years on the board and retired from the U.S. Air Force after 24 years of service, formally resigned on May 13. In a statement, he emphasized that the decision was personal and voluntary.

“There’s no scandal or force. It’s time,” he told Neuse News.

The town board now includes Marshburn, Michael Whitfield, and Penny Murphy, with Horne continuing in his role as mayor.

The board’s next meeting is scheduled later this month.
