Help wanted: Jones County Deputy Finance Officer (Copy)
Hiring Range: $67,207 - $79,888
An employee in this class performs professional accounting and fiscal work in support of the finance and budgeting operations of the County. Work includes account reconciliation and general ledger balancing; assisting with the preparation of several budgets; assisting with the annual audit process; tracking revenues and expenditures; estimating projected revenues; preparing debt amortization schedules; grant administration and accounting, including preparing reimbursement requests; reviewing and recording income from a wide variety of sources; drafting and enforcing financial policies and procedures; and preparing a wide variety of financial records and reports. Work requires a thorough understanding of governmental accounting principles and practices, advanced use of Microsoft Excel and specialized financial software, accuracy and attention to detail, and strong analytical skills. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Finance Director and is evaluated through conferences, analysis of reports, the annual audit process, and the overall effectiveness of the accounting functions.
Desirable Education and Experience
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or business and two years experience in professional accounting or governmental financial operations; or graduation from an accredited college or university with an Associate’s degree in accounting, finance, or business and five years experience in professional accounting or governmental financial operations; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Special Requirement
May require the ability to obtain NCGFOA Certified Local Government Finance Officer certification.
